Nine European nations and UK form anti-ballistic missile coalition

The leaders of nine European nations—Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and Ukraine—together with the United Kingdom, have announced the formation of a coalition to develop anti-ballistic missile defence capabilities. “We, the leaders of Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom, recognise the growing threat from ballistic missiles and the increasing importance of defence capabilities for the security of the European continent. Today, we announce the commencement of the formation of a purely defensive Anti-Ballistic Missile Coalition,” read a joint statement on Monday (13/7). The coalition reportedly aims to complement existing missile defence systems and build shared capabilities for Europe. According to the joint statement, the countries intend to establish common operational requirements, form technical working groups and governance mechanisms, and draw up a roadmap. The coalition also invited other countries aligned with its principles and objectives to join.
