Nine Cows Slaughtered for Qurban at Padang Panjang Islamic Centre, Meat Distributed to Community

Community spirit and a culture of sharing marked the Qurban slaughter at Padang Panjang’s Islamic Centre on Wednesday (27 May). Nine cows were slaughtered, with their meat distributed to local residents via hundreds of pre-allocated coupons issued by organisers. The sacrificial animals were contributed by Padang Panjang Mayor Hendri Arnis, local civil servants, Bank Nagari, Indo Jalito organisation, Baznas, PDAM, the Islamic Centre Management Board (BPIC), and AQL Center.

The slaughter proceeded smoothly, attended by Mayor Hendri, Vice Mayor Allex Saputra, Commission III DPRD Chair Mahdelmi, Baznas Chair Novi Hendri, and other officials.

Mayor Hendri stated that Eid al-Adha is a crucial opportunity to strengthen communal values, social care, and the spirit of sharing among those in need. ‘Qurban teaches sincerity and compassion towards others. We hope this activity further strengthens the relationship between the government and the community,’ he said. He also praised all parties involved in the joint Qurban initiative, noting that the cooperative spirit demonstrated reflects Padang Panjang’s strong social solidarity.

Meanwhile, Mahdelmi described the event as effective collaboration between government, institutions, and the public. ‘Such activities should be maintained and enhanced as they directly benefit the community,’ he added. At the same event, Head of the Social Welfare Section Andri Putra, accompanied by Qurban committee member Jon Henri, confirmed approximately 500 meat distribution coupons were prepared for residents around the Islamic Centre. ‘Meat distribution is scheduled after Zuhr prayer for recipients who have already received coupons from the committee,’ he explained.
