Nine Countries to Join International MTQ at Istiqlal Mosque
Jakarta – The International MTQ will be held at Istiqlal Mosque by World Mosque Youth from 23 to 25 May 2026, with participants from nine countries and 28 provinces in Indonesia. Said Aldi Al Idrus, President of World Mosque Youth, said the MTQ International is an important moment to strengthen ukhuwah Islamiyah and to reinforce the unity of the Muslim youth across nations. ‘This event is not solely a Qur’an recitation competition, but also an avenue for international camaraderie and for strengthening the brotherhood of the world Muslim community,’ he said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Friday (22 May 2026). He made the comments at a press conference about the MTQ International in Jakarta. Said Aldi noted that the involvement of delegations from nine countries and representatives from 28 Indonesian provinces demonstrates high enthusiasm for the event. The organisers hope that MTQ International at Istiqlal Mosque will be a platform for the peaceful, moderate, and global propagation of Islam, while also introducing Indonesia as a centre of international Islamic activity. In attendance were Said Aldi’s colleagues: Secretary-General of World Mosque Youth, Bustomi Muchtar; Chairman of DMDI Dunia, Adline Latief; Secretary-General of BKPRMI, Jaylani Dalimuthe; Deputy Secretary-General of BKPRMI, Zaini Kolis; and Member of the DPRD, Said Syahrul Rahman. Previously, the Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag), Nasaruddin Umar, stated that his ministry supports the use of Istiqlal Mosque for the MTQ International event. ‘To me, as long as the purpose is good. This mosque is the House of Allah and not our house. In fact, the mosque is a great home for all humanity,’ Nasaruddin said some time ago. The Minister emphasised that Istiqlal Mosque is open to religious activities that carry the spirit of brotherhood and shared welfare.
