Nine Countries and 28 Provinces Set to Join International MTQ at Istiqlal Mosque
Jakarta – Said Aldi Al Idrus, president of the World Mosque Youth, said that nine countries and 28 provinces are ready to participate in the International Qur’an Recitation Competition (MTQ). The International MTQ, initiated by World Mosque Youth, is planned to be held at Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta, on 23–25 May 2026. Said stated that this MTQ is not merely a contest of Qur’anic recitation, but also an important moment to strengthen ukhuwah Islamiyah and unite the Muslim youth generation from various countries. ‘This activity is not only a Qur’an reading competition, but also an occasion for international friendship and to strengthen the brotherhood of the world Muslim community,’ Said Aldi said in a statement on Friday, 22 May 2026. According to Said, participant enthusiasm is very high, evidenced by delegations from 9 countries and representatives from 28 provinces in Indonesia. The committee hopes the International MTQ at Istiqlal Mosque can be a venue for peaceful, moderate, and worldwide propagation of Islam, while also introducing Indonesia as a centre for international Islamic activity.
