JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT Nindya Karya (Persero) is accelerating the construction of the People’s School project in various regions, including Takalar Regency and Makassar City in South Sulawesi. The acceleration is being carried out by adding around 700 workers and implementing a double-shift system. This step is intended to ensure that the People’s School project is completed on time as part of a national priority programme that supports equitable access to education in Indonesia. The Chairman Commissioner of Nindya Karya, Michael Umbas, stated that the People’s School project must be carried out seriously because it has a direct impact on society. Umbas personally inspected the construction process of the People’s School in Takalar Regency and Makassar City on Saturday (2/5/2026). The inspection aims to ensure that the project implementation is running according to target, while prioritising construction quality, good governance, and occupational health and safety (OHS) aspects. The scope of work for the People’s School construction in Takalar Regency and Makassar City includes construction safety management systems, site preparation work, structural work, architectural work, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work, as well as furniture work. In Takalar Regency, the project is being built on land of around 58,910 square metres (m²). Meanwhile, in Makassar City, the construction is being carried out on land of 71,239 m². He explained that the People’s School project in Takalar Regency is currently still in the completion stage with the remaining working time becoming increasingly limited. To meet the completion target, the project team is carrying out various acceleration efforts, from adding workers to around 700 people to optimising working hours through a double-shift system. Umbas emphasised that every on-site obstacle must be handled quickly and in a coordinated manner. “Every obstacle must be responded to openly, coordinated with all stakeholders, and resolved with the right solutions. The completion target must still be maintained,” he said. He also reminded that the project should be completed without submitting for time extensions, while maintaining work quality and occupational health and safety (OHS) aspects. Meanwhile, for the People’s School project in Makassar City, Umbas mentioned that the construction progress is relatively better compared to Takalar, so he is optimistic that the project can be completed according to target. Nevertheless, he still requested acceleration through adding workers, optimising material distribution, and resolving various technical issues on site. “We see that the team’s commitment on site is quite good. This must continue to be maintained and strengthened so that the completion target is achieved as planned,” he concluded.
