NIK not found when checking social assistance? Here are 6 causes and how to resolve them
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Some members of the public still encounter difficulties when checking their social assistance (bansos) recipient status, such as receiving a notification that their National Identification Number (NIK) cannot be found. This condition does not necessarily mean that an individual is ineligible to receive assistance.
The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) explained that the search for social assistance data utilises the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN) database. Consequently, search results are influenced by the validity of population data, data matching results, and the periodic verification and updating processes conducted by the government.
Here are several causes for the NIK not being found during a social assistance check, along with how to address them:
Incorrect NIK entry: Typing errors in one or more digits of the NIK is the most frequent cause. The system can only recognise NIKs consisting of 16 digits, as per the electronic ID card (KTP-el).
Data not yet included in the DTSEN: Even with a valid NIK, an individual may not be recorded as a potential recipient if their data has not been entered or updated in the DTSEN, which serves as the reference for social assistance distribution.
Unsynchronised population data: Discrepancies between the Civil Registry (Dukcapil) data and the data used by the Ministry of Social Affairs—such as changes in address, family status, or identity updates—can prevent the NIK from being recognised by the system.
Recipient proposals still undergoing verification: Individuals who have recently submitted proposals as social assistance recipients through village offices, sub-districts, or the Cek Bansos application must wait for the verification and validation process to be completed before their data appears in the system.
Changes in economic status: Social assistance recipient data may change following socio-economic data updates. If an individual’s economic condition is deemed to have improved or no longer meets the eligibility criteria, their name may no longer appear in the search results.
System disturbances or data updates: At certain times, checking services may undergo system maintenance or data updates, meaning search results may not be displayed normally.
How to resolve the ‘NIK not found’ issue:
Ensure the entered NIK is correct and consists of 16 digits.
Re-check the verification code (captcha) before performing the search.
Try checking again after some time if the system is undergoing an update.
Ensure that population data at the Civil Registry (Dukcapil) is accurate and up to date.
Submit data updates through the village or sub-district government, the local Social Affairs Office, or the Cek Bansos application if there are changes in data.
Perform periodic checks once the verification process is complete.
How to check social assistance status:
Members of the public can check their social assistance recipient status by entering their NIK as per their ID card and the available verification code. The system will then display the recipient status if the data is found within the DTSEN.
If data is not found despite all information being verified as correct, the public is advised to contact their village or sub-district government, or the local Social Affairs Office, to obtain assistance in the data update process.
