Night transportation

Night transportation

From Jayakarta

As a Jakarta resident, I was really happy when newspaper
reports said that the city administration confirmed its plan to
operate public transport at night. It is because currently the
number of public buses which operate late at night is limited,
including the number of those which ply the downtown area.

Even at around 9 p.m. hardly any public buses are seen
operating. Only taxis are available in considerable number after
that hour and during the very late hours. But to the low income
people who need cheap transportation it becomes a problem.

In fact, it is ironical that Jakarta, which is the country's
capital city, is not supported by public buses late at night.
Besides, this city, as it is widely known, never sleeps.

Those who have their own cars, or the rich, have nothing to
complain about. The wealthy can take taxis. But the fare of taxis
is unaffordable to the majority of residents.
