Night transport still a problem
Night transport still a problem
JAKARTA (JP): The city's night transportation system,
introduced last October, is still not functioning as expected,
with only a small number of buses operating between 10.00 p.m.
and dawn.
At the Senen bus terminal, for example, there was only one
city-owned PPD bus plying the Senen-Tanjung Priok route at 2.00
a.m. on Friday, Suara Pembaruan reported.
The city administration introduced the system for the use of
people who work night shifts.
According to the latest evaluation conducted by the City
Traffic and Land Transportation Control Agency, many transport
companies are reluctant to run their fleets at night because they
cannot cover their operating costs.
Rachmat, a PDD bus driver, said at the Senen terminal that his
colleagues were reluctant to work at night because it was not
profitable, given the small number of passengers.(bas)
