Night spots closure protested

YOGYAKARTA: Some 300 employees of night spot entertainment centers staged a protest on Wednesday in front of the Office of the Mayor in Yogyakarta, demanding the administration revoke a decree stipulating that night spots must close during Ramadhan.

The employees gave speeches, saying that the temporary closure of the night spots would deprive them of income for one month.

They also unfurled banners and posters during the protest, which read: "We are not evil, don't tie us during Ramadhan" and "Our children are in dire need of milk".

Dozens of pedicab drivers affected by the closure of the night spots also participated in the protest. -- Antara
