Night golf is now available in Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): Golf lovers in Jakarta can now play their
favorite game in the evening, from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., under
lights at the 80-hectare Modern Golf Course, situated in the
center of the Modern Land residential estate in Tangerang, West
Java.

The sports complex, featuring an 18-hole, 72-par course, will
be officially launched next June upon the completion of the main
club house, tennis courts and an Olympic-size swimming pool,
Steve Hidayat, the assistant general manager of the Modern Golf
and Country Club said yesterday.

The Rp 30 billion (US$13.6 million) course, designed by Peter
Thomson, five-time winner of the British Open, was completed and
was available for use as of June 1, last year, Steve said.

It is the first night golf course in Indonesia, and is much
like those in Jurong, Singapore, and Dubai, the United Arab
Emirates.

The 80-hectare course has 29 man-made ponds, covering 6,375
square meters of blue tee, 5,933 square meters of white tee,
5,622 square meters of yellow tee and 5,194 square meters of red
tee, and tropical landscape with local trees.

The membership fee is Rp 76 million for golf, or Rp 82 million
if members also wish to have access to the entire sports complex.
Membership is good for 20 years, after which 50 percent of the
fee will be returned. "We now have 900 members," Steve said.

Thomson with his company Thomson Wolveridge and Perrett have
designed a number of golf courses in Indonesia, including the
Jagorawi, the Bali Handara, and Gunung Geulis courses. (arf)
