The Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub DKI) has prepared situational traffic management and diversions on a number of roads along the route of the Decorated Vehicle Carnival as part of the celebrations for Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day, Monday (17/8) evening, from 19.00 to 23.00 WIB.

Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, Budi Awaluddin, said that traffic management, diversions and the possible closure of one lane would be carried out situationally on a number of roads and access points towards the Monas, Thamrin, Sudirman and Dukuh Atas areas.

The carnival route starts from Jalan Silang Merdeka Daya Barat–Monas, passes along the eastern side of Jalan M.H. Thamrin, the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout, the eastern side of Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, and ends at Jalan Galunggung–Taman Dukuh Atas Skatepark.

In addition, the Harmoni Nusantara stages at Monas, Sarinah and the HI Roundabout also enlivened the series of celebrations on the eve of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day.

To anticipate congestion, Dishub DKI deployed around 500 officers at a number of strategic points. “Officers will continue to carry out situational management, adjusting to conditions and the movement of the public on the ground,” said Budi.

Budi, together with the Head of the Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), Satriadi Gunawan, directly monitored the celebrations in the National Monument (Monas) area, Central Jakarta, on Monday (17/8), to ensure that management and public services ran optimally amid high public enthusiasm.

To support security, Satpol PP DKI deployed 1,225 personnel from Sunday (16/8) to Monday (17/8).

“Satpol PP together with Dishub are present to ensure that the public can celebrate independence safely and comfortably,” said Satriadi.

The Jakarta Provincial Government urged residents who have no business in the area to avoid the carnival zone and adjust their travel routes. Meanwhile, members of the public who wish to watch the carnival are asked to remain orderly and comply with the instructions of officers on the ground.
