Nigerian national deported from Bali after 93-day overstay

The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office in Badung Regency, Bali, has deported a Nigerian foreign national with the initials IO for overstaying her residence permit by 93 days.

Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office Novyandri said on Thursday that IO neither extended her residence permit nor left Indonesia after it expired on 15 May 2026.

“IO did not extend her permit or leave Indonesian territory, so her presence no longer had a valid residence permit,” he said.

According to immigration records, IO entered Indonesia through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, using a visit visa on 17 November 2025.

While in Bali, IO moved between several locations, including the Canggu area of Badung Regency.

During examination, the woman, who was born in Lagos, Nigeria, admitted she could not return to her country because she did not have the funds to purchase a flight ticket.

IO was subsequently reported by a friend to the North Kuta Police for overstaying her residence permit on 13 August 2026.

Police then handed IO over to Ngurah Rai Immigration on 16 August 2026.

After undergoing examination and waiting for funds to be arranged for her return, IO was finally deported via I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport to Qatar and onward to Lagos, Nigeria.

Ngurah Rai Immigration has also proposed that IO be placed on the entry blacklist. The decision regarding the blacklisting will be determined by the Directorate General of Immigration.

“When the validity period of a residence permit has expired, the person concerned is obliged to leave Indonesian territory immediately or apply for an extension in accordance with applicable regulations. The reason of limited funds does not remove that obligation,” said Novyandri.

He said Ngurah Rai Immigration would tighten supervision of foreign nationals by involving cross-sectoral cooperation to ensure they comply with immigration regulations in Indonesia.
