NHM's Free Ambulance Service Assists Over 130 Patients in North Halmahera
The commitment of PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM) through the NHM Peduli programme continues to be felt by local communities. As of the January–July 2026 period, the NHM Peduli free ambulance service has assisted with more than 130 services for patients and the transport of the deceased, particularly for communities living around the mining area, while also reaching several other areas of North Halmahera Regency.
In the third week of July 2026, the NHM Peduli ambulance service once again assisted two residents requiring emergency medical care. On 16 July, a pregnant woman from Waringin Lamo Village in Kao District, Febiana Isabel Koya, was referred from Kao Community Health Centre to Tobelo Regional General Hospital.
Subsequently, on 18 July, the NHM Peduli ambulance transported Yermina Popola, a resident of Leleseng Village in West Kao District who had suffered a stroke, to receive treatment at Tobelo Regional General Hospital. The patient’s family also expressed their appreciation for the assistance provided.
“On behalf of the Popola family, we would like to thank NHM for the help and care shown to us, particularly the underprivileged members of the community,” Yermina said in a statement on Friday (24 July 2026).
Meanwhile, NHM Peduli’s Cost Control officer, Fenny Baud, affirmed that the free ambulance service is one form of the company’s commitment to supporting public healthcare access, especially for residents facing limitations in emergency transport.
“Currently, there are two ambulance units ready to support the community’s emergency needs around the clock. This ambulance service support is provided to ease the transport cost burden that is often difficult due to the shortage of ambulance units, both in villages and at community health centres,” Fenny said.
She explained that requests for the ambulance service can be submitted through the Village Head, who then coordinates with the NHM Peduli Field Coordinator at the district level. Once verified and approved, the request is immediately forwarded to the ambulance drivers who are on standby 24 hours a day.
“NHM Peduli ambulance drivers are always ready to serve with heart. This is not merely a duty, but part of our commitment to being present and helping the community in their most critical moments,” Fenny added.
The presence of the NHM Peduli free ambulance service reflects the company’s spirit of ‘Mining with Heart’, meaning it does not only carry out mining operations but also brings genuine care and tangible benefits to the community. NHM hopes this service can continue to support the community, particularly in facing health emergencies and other humanitarian needs.
