Ngurah Rai's Great-Grandson Interprets Adiluhung Award as a Reflection of Struggle

National Hero, Brigadier General TNI (Posthumous) I Gusti Ngurah Rai, was awarded the Anugerah Adiluhung at the detikBali-Nusra Awards 2026, held at the Trans Resort Hotel in Bali on Friday (3/7/2026). The award was presented directly by CT Corp Chairman Chairul Tanjung, accompanied by Detikcom Editor-in-Chief Adhi Suryadhi, as a mark of respect for the hero’s extraordinary service to Bali and Indonesia. The family was represented by Ngurah Rai’s great-grandson, I Gusti Ngurah Gede Basudewa Wiratama, who accepted the award with pride for the profound appreciation shown to the figure renowned in the Puputan Margarana battle. He stressed the importance of interpreting the award as a reflection of struggle, rather than merely an annual ceremony. “We hope, especially I as a member of Gen Z or a successor of the Indonesian nation, that this award is not just an ordinary formality but a reminder that the independence we enjoy now did not come for free. The independence, comfort, and freedom to create that we enjoy now came from the struggles and bloodshed of our ancestors,” Basudewa said during his speech on stage. The award ceremony also served as an important networking occasion, bringing together national policymakers and major corporate figures. The moment was attended by Minister of Cooperatives Feri Juliantono, Minister of Trade Budi Santoso, and CT Corp Chairman Chairul Tanjung. “Therefore, I hope to convey a message to all colleagues, especially to the younger generation like myself, to continue fighting for the independence that has been given to us. Because in this digital era, independence is no longer fought for with weapons, but through how we can utilise the time given to us to be active and provide a positive culture or positive impact to our country,” Basudewa told the invited guests.
