Ngurah Rai Customs Foils Smuggling of 1 kg Hashish from Thailand
Customs and Excise at Ngurah Rai have further strengthened surveillance at the International Arrivals Terminal of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali by seizing 1,079 grams gross of a Class I narcotic, hashish.
The hashish was carried by a woman of Kazakhstani nationality.
Head of the Ngurah Rai Customs and Excise Office, Wawan Dharmawan, said the item was brought from Thailand on Thai Lion Air flight SL258 with the route Don Mueang–Denpasar.
The case was uncovered on Tuesday (4/8/2026) at around 14.30 WITA, when Ngurah Rai Customs officers were conducting surveillance of passengers who had just arrived in the international arrivals area.
Based on the results of analysis and risk management, officers scrutinised the passenger’s luggage and proceeded with further examination.
From the examination of the suitcase, officers found a black plastic jar labelled VENZEN containing a soft, blackish-brown solid weighing 1,079 grams gross.
“The package was tucked among the belongings in the suitcase and is suspected to contain a Class I narcotic of the Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) type, or hashish,” said Wawan in a statement on Friday (14/8/2026).
In the initial examination, the passenger admitted that it was her first time coming to Indonesia and that she was in Bali alone for a three-day holiday.
She also stated that she received the suitcase on 3 August 2026 from someone described as a friend of her university acquaintance. The suitcase was then carried on her flight to Bali.
Immediately after the suspected narcotics were secured, Ngurah Rai Customs coordinated with the Bali Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP Bali) for further handling of the case. Subsequently, the handover of the suspect, evidence, and case was carried out to BNNP Bali.
