Ngurah Rai Airport Opens Denpasar-Canberra Flight Route
I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali officially welcomed the inaugural Virgin Australia flight on the direct Canberra (CBR)-Denpasar (DPS) route on Monday evening (22/6/2026). The service will operate three times a week during the 2026 summer season, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
This new connection makes Australia the country with the most direct flight routes to Ngurah Rai Airport, totalling 12. The routes connect Bali with Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Darwin, Cairns, Newcastle, Avalon, Sunshine Coast, and now Canberra.
The inaugural Virgin Australia flight from Canberra to Denpasar, using a Boeing 737 MAX 8 with flight number VA127, landed at Ngurah Rai Airport at 9:02 p.m. local time carrying 165 passengers. It departed back to Canberra as flight VA128 at 10:39 p.m. with 68 passengers on board.
General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Nugroho Jati, welcomed the new direct connection, stating it reinforces Bali’s position as a favourite destination for Australian tourists. He noted that the Canberra route is actually a reactivation of a previously operated service and expressed hope it would generate a positive multiplier effect for the tourism sector, the economy, and supporting industries.
Australia remains the largest source of foreign tourists to Bali, with approximately 664,000 visits recorded up to May 2026. The new Canberra service becomes the 41st international route served by Ngurah Rai Airport, which is currently connected by 43 airlines.
