Ngruki school to hold seminar

SURAKARTA: Al-Mukmin Islamic Boarding School in Ngruki here, whose students and leaders, including Abu Bakar Ba'asyir, had been accused of involvement in terrorist activities, is set to hold an international seminar on Islam and Globalization.

The seminar will take place in a hotel here on Aug. 12, and among the participants invited to attend the function are foreign envoys from 10 embassies in Indonesia, including the United States Embassy, and representatives from religious organizations, including the Indonesian Communion of Churches (PGI).

Wahyudin, the director of the boarding school, said that the seminar was aimed at showing the public that the boarding school was tolerant and did not intend to turn Indonesia into an Islamic state. -- JP
