NGO's views
NGO's views
As one of the non-governmental organizations (NGO) which was
also present at the Police Headquarters on April 18, 1995
demanding that the case of Sri Bintang Pamungkas be handled
immediately, we would like to give our views, regardless his
involvement in the recent demonstration in Germany.
* Bintang is too proud of his intellectual standing and the
relations he has with international circles, so that he forgets
his responsibility for improving the country's condition i.e.
many problems which concern the majority of the people and which
still call for the government's attention. Unemployment, poverty,
political and law consciousness and other pressing problems are
awaiting solution by various parties including intellectuals like
Sri Bintang.
* There is an impression that Sri Bintang' actions are only
meant for gaining popularity and giving surprises to the people.
In fact, continuous efforts and clear cut programs are required
in order to improve the country's condition. Most NGO's are
thinking and trying hard to achieve the goal.
* We didn't hear Sri Bintang making any statements concerning
the demonstrations in Hanover and Dresden. He should have been on
the defense of his President that has been improperly treated by
other nation. Then we have every reason to doubt his sense of
nationalism.
* We would like in this context to warn the government of the
decreasing patriotism which has to be appropriately dealt with
particularly in the interest and the future of the younger
generations. Therefore, it will be quite relevant for the
government to oblige all students to join pramuka (boy and girl
scouts organization). Youth programs should be activated. Provide
the young people with correct and rational education on politics
and law.
* On the other hand, the young people should also exercise
critical thinking in order to distinguish the real patriots from
the false ones.
