NGOs oppose ecotourism at national park

BANDARLAMPUNG, Lampung: The Legal Aid Institute (LBH) in
Bandarlampung said it would facilitate a meeting to discuss the
polemics of a cooperation between Taman Safari in Bogor, West
Java, and the provincial administration, to launch an ecotourism
project at the Way Kambas National Park in East Lampung.

The chief of the institute's operation section, Watoni
Noerdin, said over the weekend that the meeting would open a
dialog among those who were for and against the planned
ecotourism project.

An alliance of proenvironment non-governmental organizations
(NGOs) oppose the planned ecotourism project because they said it
would threaten the park's population of protected species and its
environment. --JP
