NGOs against U.S. planned attack
KUALA LUMPUR (DPA): A group of Malaysian non-governmental
organizations (NGOs) urged the United States on Thursday not to
launch military strikes against Afghanistan to avenge the Sept.
11 terror attacks in New York and Washington.
Calling themselves the Global Peace Mission, the 23 NGOs,
which included Muslim, Christian and Buddhist organizations,
handed over a memorandum addressed to U.S. President George W.
Bush through the U.S. embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
They called for "concrete evidence" to prove that Afghanistan
and Saudi radical Osama bin Laden were behind the attacks, saying
that Islam has always been used as a "bogey" when terrorist
attacks are committed worldwide.
Ahmad Azam Abdul Rahman, president of the Muslim Youth
Movement of Malaysia (ABIM), said the NGOs condemned the Sept. 11
attacks and conveyed their condolences to the American people.
