NGO head gets 3 years for graft

CIREBON, West Java: The Sumber District Court sentenced on
Thursday an executive director of a non-governmental organization
(NGO) to three years in jail for corruption here.

Presiding judge R. Nohantoro also required defendant Tasrif
Abu Bakar, who led the Wangun Caruban Foundation, to pay a fine
of Rp 391.4 million (US$48,875).

In his verdict, the judge found the defendant, a resident of
Kapetakan, Cirebon, guilty of embezzling Rp 1.4 billion
(US$175,000) from the Credit for Farmers (KUT) fund.

The defendant was abetted by other members of Wangun Caruban
and other members of farmer's groups in the area, the judge said.

Those implicated in the case were being tried in separate
sessions. -- Antara
