NGO head gets 3 years for graft
CIREBON, West Java: The Sumber District Court sentenced on Thursday an executive director of a non-governmental organization (NGO) to three years in jail for corruption here.
Presiding judge R. Nohantoro also required defendant Tasrif Abu Bakar, who led the Wangun Caruban Foundation, to pay a fine of Rp 391.4 million (US$48,875).
In his verdict, the judge found the defendant, a resident of Kapetakan, Cirebon, guilty of embezzling Rp 1.4 billion (US$175,000) from the Credit for Farmers (KUT) fund.
The defendant was abetted by other members of Wangun Caruban and other members of farmer's groups in the area, the judge said.
Those implicated in the case were being tried in separate sessions. -- Antara
