The Ngawi Regency Government held a Malam Tirakatan (night of reflection) to commemorate the 668th anniversary of Ngawi Regency at the Wedya Graha Pendopo on Monday, 6 July 2026. The event was attended by Bupati Ony Anwar Harsono, the Deputy Bupati, members of the Forkopimda (Regional Leadership Coordination Forum), heads of regional apparatus organisations (OPD), sub-district heads, village heads, religious leaders, and various community elements. The anniversary carried the theme ‘Ngawi Tumbuh, Berdaya, Berbudaya’ (Ngawi Grows, Empowered, Cultured).
In his address, Bupati Ony Anwar Harsono stated that the occasion was a moment for gratitude and reflection on the regency’s long journey. He noted that the challenges of the times have shifted the meaning of development, which is no longer solely focused on physical and infrastructure progress but also on character building in the digital era. ‘We must maintain the spirit of togetherness and mutual cooperation as capital to face future challenges. We want the children of Ngawi to grow into a generation that is intelligent, moral, friendly, and proud of their region,’ Ony said. He also reminded all elements of society of their responsibility to create a supportive environment for the younger generation amidst rapid technological advancement, hoping they do not lose their identity and love for their homeland.
Ony expressed his appreciation to the entire community for their commitment to maintaining harmony. He invited all citizens to play an active role in advancing the region, regardless of the size of their contribution. ‘Let us continue to work and serve according to our respective duties and responsibilities. We submit our best efforts to God Almighty so that Ngawi Regency is always blessed with security and progress,’ he stated.
The anniversary series continued with a ceremony in the courtyard of the Wedya Graha Pendopo on Tuesday, 7 July 2026. In his mandate, Ony conveyed that 2026 marks the closing phase of the first Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD) of his leadership. The regency government is now preparing to enter the next stage through the formulation of the second RPJMD with the vision ‘Semesta Berencana Jilid 2’ (Universe Planned Volume 2). In this period, the direction of development will be intensified towards strengthening comprehensive community self-reliance. Ony also emphasised the importance of strengthening national character and identity amidst the strong currents of modernisation, ensuring that noble culture and Eastern traditional character are revitalised to become the spirit of future development steps. Regarding the sub-theme ‘Ngawi Tumbuh’ (Ngawi Grows), he explained that the development focus covers various strategic sectors, including economic growth, infrastructure development, job expansion, and improving the quality of human resources.
