Ngawi (ANTARA) — The Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Ngawi Regency, East Java, has distributed clean water assistance to a total of 1,884 residents affected by drought or struggling to access clean water, spread across 15 villages in seven districts in the local area.

“Since 2 August up until now, there have been 110 deliveries of clean water, each with a capacity of 5,000 to 6,000 litres per drop to the destination location,” said the Head of Emergency and Logistics at BPBD Ngawi, Yudha Herlambang, in Ngawi on Monday.

According to agency data, 15 villages across seven districts have been affected by drought during the 2026 dry season. The areas concerned are in the districts of Ngawi, Pitu, Karanganyar, Kasreman, Bringin, Karangjati and Kedunggalar.

In total, 715 households (KK) have been affected by the drought or are experiencing difficulty accessing clean water, amounting to 1,884 individuals.

Yudha Herlambang explained that clean water distribution is carried out three to four times a day, depending on requests from residents in the affected villages.

“For the distribution or dropping of clean water, BPBD is working together with a number of other institutions, including the Indonesian Red Cross, the Bengawan Solo River Basin Authority (BBWS), and various community groups,” he said.

In addition to vehicles with capacities of 5,000 to 6,000 litres, BPBD Ngawi has also provided water storage facilities in the form of tarpaulin pools in each affected village, with a capacity of up to 1,200 litres.

He added that the use of storage tanks and water distribution serves as a temporary solution to meet residents’ water needs for the duration of the dry season.

According to data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the peak of the 2026 dry season will occur between August and September, whilst the transition period from the dry season to the rainy season is forecast to begin in November.
