Nezar: Internet Access Equality No Longer Relies Solely on BTS Construction
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria stated that the government is no longer solely relying on the construction of Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) to achieve internet access equality, but is instead adapting to the geographical conditions, population size, and needs of each region.
Through this approach, the government will combine the construction of BTS, fibre optic networks, satellites, and other telecommunication technologies so that internet services can reach more people, including those in areas with difficult terrain.
“We are trying to map out the priorities. Areas that might not be reachable by BTS could perhaps be reached via satellite or other telecommunication network modes,” Nezar said during a meeting with the East Kalimantan Provincial Communication and Informatics Office at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs office in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He noted that East Kalimantan is one of the provinces with a high level of connectivity.
“East Kalimantan Province is one of the best in terms of connectivity, at 95.5 percent. Out of 841 villages, 803 are already covered,” he stated.
According to him, budget limitations should not hinder the equal distribution of digital access, making collaboration key to accelerating connectivity development in areas still experiencing blank spots or weak signals.
“With the synergy we are building, we can strengthen each other and realise several points that are needed by the community,” he said.
“We are choosing the most suitable combination of technologies so that the delivery of internet access services in villages is effective,” he added.
Ririn added that accelerating connectivity equality requires continuous support from the central government, including through data synchronisation, policy strengthening, and cross-stakeholder collaboration.
“The key in this current situation is for us to collaborate. So we ask for full support. Our commitment is also to accompany the programmes, one of which is internet access,” Ririn said.
