Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital (Wamenkomdigi) Nezar Patria emphasised that the development of digital talent cannot focus solely on technical abilities but must also include understanding how to interact with AI properly, while being able to control its usage. “AI design must be human-centric so that the technology developed has a positive impact on humans. In decision-making, AI must still place humans at the centre through a human in the loop approach (active human involvement),” Nezar said in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Saturday. According to him, AI design must place humans at the centre. He reminded of the risks from the increasingly massive use of artificial intelligence, which is seen as beginning to erode critical thinking abilities, especially among students and professionals. “We must not lose our critical capacity because everything is handed over to AI. This is already starting to happen in the world of education,” Nezar stated. Therefore, according to him, digital talent must still be able to critically evaluate every AI output. He also emphasised that thinking and decision-making abilities must not be entirely shifted to machines. On the other hand, Nezar encouraged the utilisation of AI to address real problems in strategic sectors such as food, energy, health, and maritime. A problem-based approach is considered important so that technology has a direct impact on society. “Strategic ambition is needed so that we do not only adopt technology but are able to use it to solve real problems in priority sectors,” he said. He conveyed this when opening the AI Talent Factory 2 Workshop at Gadjah Mada University. The AI Talent Factory 2 Workshop was attended by 98 students and 28 lecturers from Gadjah Mada University, Brawijaya University, and Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology. The programme is aimed at forming talent who not only master technology but are also able to control the impact of AI utilisation.
