NEXT Indonesia Center supports DSI in overseeing strategic natural resource commodity exports
NEXT Indonesia Center Director Herry Gunawan supports PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) in overseeing exports of strategic natural resource commodities, and considers it necessary for the assignment to be based on regulation.
“DSI is very capable of receiving a mandate as supervisor of strategic natural resource commodity exports, which is currently a serious concern for the government. Now, it only needs to be equipped with an adequate legal umbrella,” said Herry in a statement received in Jakarta on Saturday.
Herry reminded that, in accordance with the provisions set out in Article 3 paragraph (3) of Government Regulation No. 24 of 2026 concerning Governance and Export of Strategic Natural Resource Commodities, the state-owned export enterprise is determined in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations.
Therefore, he continued, it is not merely a deed of establishment, but also requires an assignment based on regulation, for example in the form of a Government Regulation or Presidential Regulation.
Herry referred to President Prabowo Subianto’s speech at the Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia on 14 August 2026, in which the President revealed that DSI has managed export foreign exchange worth US$14 billion from three commodities, namely palm oil, coal and ferro alloy.
Furthermore, he continued, DSI has identified an additional potential of US$5 billion from potential differences and adjustments in price, quality and payment of export foreign exchange.
Going forward, President Prabowo plans to increase oversight at 50 ports in 25 provinces, as well as other commodities through DSI.
“As a follow-up to the President’s statement, DSI’s assignment as the institution overseeing exports needs to be mandated through clear regulations,” said Herry.
President Prabowo Subianto revealed that PT Danantara Sumber Daya Indonesia (DSI) has succeeded in identifying potential additional state revenue of up to US$5 billion from the results of oversight and monitoring of export activities of a number of strategic commodities abroad.
The President stated that within 2 months and 13 days since its establishment in May 2026, PT DSI has monitored more than 6,000 export transactions of three strategic commodities, namely coal, palm oil and ferro alloy.
Therefore, the President said PT DSI will expand the scope of its oversight to 50 ports in 25 provinces. In addition, PT DSI will also expand the scope of its oversight not limited to only the three strategic commodities, but also to other leading commodities.
