Jakarta (ANTARA) – NEXT Indonesia Center Director Herry Gunawan said the success of PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) should be measured by its ability to strengthen oversight, improve transaction transparency and ensure export values are recorded accurately.

He cautioned that DSI should remain focused on the purpose for which it was established: reducing export leakage and strengthening oversight of trade in natural resource commodities.

“DSI’s success should be measured by its ability to strengthen oversight, improve transaction transparency and ensure export values are recorded accurately,” Herry said in an official statement in Jakarta on Sunday.

DSI’s current commodity coverage includes coal, palm oil and ferro-alloys.

In Herry’s view, DSI should serve as an instrument for strengthening export governance, not merely as a new business entity. An overly strong commercial focus, he said, risks displacing its original purpose.

“DSI must not become preoccupied with building itself into an exporting company while export leakage and weak transaction oversight remain unresolved. It needs to focus on enforcing sound export governance, rather than competing to become a market participant internationally,” Herry said.

Herry said a single-gateway export system must be accompanied by integrated oversight. DSI should link data on export transactions, sales values, commodity volumes and international market prices.

This would make it possible to detect price and volume anomalies, including indications of under-invoicing and transfer pricing that reduce state revenue, he said.
