Newspaper boys prone to street crimes

JAKARTA: A number of newspaper agents said that newspaper delivery boys were prone to street crimes as during the last six months there had been 19 cases of motorcycle theft and robbery.

Nine of the cases happened in the Cikokol distribution area, two in Bekasi, five in the Fatmawati area of South Jakarta and three on Jl. Gajah Mada in Central Jakarta.

Most of the victims suffered severe injuries as a result of the criminal attacks, but no lives had been lost thus far, circulation officer Sugeng Hari Santoso said on Thursday during a discussion on how newspaper delivery boys could anticipate attacks.

City police spokesman Sr. Comr. Anton Bachrul Alam said that such attacks were unavoidable and were in line with an overall rise in street crime. --JP
