Newsman's murder reconstructed

YOGYAKARTA: Police will reconstruct the Aug. 13 deadly attack on Bernas daily journalist Fuad Muhammad Syafrudin widely believed to have been related to his reporting on corruption in the Bantul regency government.

Djufri Taufik, the lawyer representing suspect Dwi Sumaji, said yesterday the police would hold the murder reconstruction at the journalist's house in Bantul, near Yogyakarta.

The police had their Sumaji dossier rejected by prosecutors on the grounds that evidence the police presented was too weak.

It will be the second reconstruction by police. The first one was rejected by legal experts because police failed to present Sumaji to Marsiyem, the deceased's wife and the only eyewitness in the murder case.

Police have been accused of trying to cover up the widely publicized murder case believed to have involved senior government officials. (23/imn)
