Police in Ponorogo Regency, East Java, have arrested a newly married couple in connection with a motorcycle theft case. The arrests occurred just two days after the couple’s wedding.

As reported by detikJatim on Thursday (26/2/2026), the perpetrators are identified as MRA (23) and AS (26). They are known to have committed the motorcycle theft on January 24, 2026. Two days later, MRA and AS held their wedding ceremony.

“It is true that they committed the theft before getting married. At the time of the incident, they were still dating,” said Ponorogo Police Chief AKBP Andin Wisno Sudibyo.

MRA and AS were arrested on January 28, 2026, two days after their wedding. The investigation revealed that the stolen motorcycle had been sold in the Surabaya area. The proceeds from the sale were allegedly used for their daily needs and to finance their wedding.

“The stolen motorcycle has been sold. It is suspected that the money was used for their needs and wedding expenses,” said Andin.

Furthermore, both individuals are repeat offenders with previous convictions for motorcycle theft and drug abuse. They reportedly met while serving time in a correctional institution.

“Both are repeat offenders. They met while they were in prison,” he explained.
