Newcomers to Jakarta urged to prepare personal documents

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has requested that people wishing to work in the capital after returning from Eid al-Fitr homecoming prepare their personal documents fully. He stressed that although his administration will not conduct enforcement operations against new arrivals, completing personal documents remains an obligation. “Yes, as I have repeatedly stated, there will be no enforcement operations in Jakarta, but we ask anyone who wants to work in Jakarta to equip themselves with all administrative requirements,” Pramono said after an open house at the Jakarta City Hall pendopo on Saturday. In addition, prospective new arrivals are also asked to work according to their respective capacities. “And then also work according to their capabilities,” Pramono stated. His side also predicts a surge of new arrivals to Jakarta after Eid al-Fitr to seek employment. “Indeed, at this time we also suspect there will certainly be a surge of people looking for work in Jakarta,” Pramono concluded. Previously, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government predicted that 10,000 to 12,000 people will come to Jakarta after Eid 2026. Jakarta Governor’s Special Staff for Social Communication, Chico Hakim, said there has been a year-on-year decline in the number of new arrivals in Jakarta. This decline is influenced by the current economic and geopolitical conditions. From 2022 to 2025, the number of new arrivals in Jakarta after Eid has successively decreased from 27,000 to 16,000 people.
