New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani attends Eid al-Adha prayer in Arsenal-themed kurta

New York — Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a staunch Arsenal fan, celebrated Eid al-Adha 2026 by wearing a kurta themed after The Gunners. He attended the Eid prayer in the Bronx district on Wednesday 27 May 2026.

As reported by Arab News on Friday 29 May 2026, the African-born mayor attended the Eid al-Adha prayer wearing a specially designed Arsenal-themed kurta.

Mamdani donned the outfit to celebrate his team’s recent Premier League title win.

Photos of the mayor praying in the traditional blue and red colours of Arsenal’s away kit went viral on social media.

The fact that he wore the outfit just weeks before the United States hosts the FIFA World Cup alongside Mexico and Canada has drawn further public attention.

Mamdani began supporting the North London club at age 10, around the time when The Gunners last won the league in the famous unbeaten 2003-2004 season.

His uncle bought him a set of fridge magnets featuring key Arsenal players, including Thierry Henry and Sylvain Wiltord.
