PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI) officially introduced the Mitsubishi New Xforce HEV as the first Mitsubishi Motors hybrid model marketed in Indonesia on Thursday (16/7/2026) at Kasablanka Mall, South Jakarta. The compact SUV not only receives design and feature updates, but also carries the latest-generation Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) system developed for the ASEAN market.

The hybrid system on the New Xforce combines a 1,600 CC MIVEC petrol engine with an electric motor. Mitsubishi says the main character of this system is maximising the use of the electric motor so the vehicle can run more quietly, smoothly and responsively, while still maintaining fuel efficiency.

According to Adam Rahman, General Manager of the Product Strategy Division at PT MMKSI, in his presentation to journalists, the hybrid technology has been developed and tested in various ASEAN countries to suit road conditions and vehicle usage patterns in the region.

Unlike conventional hybrid systems, the New Xforce HEV is designed to use electric power more frequently. When the vehicle starts moving, the system activates EV mode so the car runs using energy from the battery.

“When used in urban areas or during medium-speed acceleration, the system will switch to Hybrid Series, where the petrol engine functions to recharge the battery. Once the battery capacity is sufficient again, the vehicle will return to using electric power,” he said.

When climbing hills, the system activates Hybrid Parallel Low so the engine and electric motor work together to produce greater torque. Meanwhile, at high speeds, Hybrid Parallel High takes over to deliver optimal power.

When cruising at a constant speed on the motorway, according to Adam, the system will disconnect the electric motor to improve fuel efficiency. When the vehicle decelerates or brakes, kinetic energy is recovered through regenerative braking to recharge the battery.

Seven driving modes

The New Xforce HEV now has seven driving modes, consisting of Normal, Wet, Gravel, Mud, Tarmac, EV and Charge. The last three modes are new features on this hybrid model compared with the previous-generation Xforce.

EV Priority Mode allows the vehicle to prioritise the use of electric power. Meanwhile, Charge Mode is used to recharge the battery whilst driving so that electric energy reserves remain available. Tarmac mode is designed to provide faster acceleration response when driving on asphalt roads.

“EV Priority Mode is suitable for low speeds and driving conditions within the city,” said Rifat Sungkar, Mitsubishi brand ambassador who has tested the Xforce from Jakarta to Bali.
