New way of earning money?

JAKARTA (JP): In many big cities like Jakarta, people have
found various ways of earning money, including illegally using
the names of high-ranking officials.

Recently, city police spokesman Lt. Col. Bambang Haryoko
almost fell victim to such a scheme.

Last week, Bambang's staff received a phone call from a man
calling himself "Suryo Supakudiningrat".

"I'm a former police chief from Riau (Sumatra) and want to
invite you to a special reception which has been suggested by the
coordinating minister of security and political affairs," said
the man, who claimed that he was calling from the Bina Graha
presidential office.

He then offered Bambang two invitation cards at a price of Rp
300,000 (US$135) each.

Realizing that the person was going to cheat him, Bambang
challenged him, saying that he would buy the invitation cards for
Rp 500,000 each.

Bambang invited the person to send some people to his office
to collect the "money" and deliver the tickets.

But nobody came to Bambang's office. (bsr)
