New Update on Iran War: Trump Seeks Meeting with Mojtaba Khamenei

US President Donald Trump has stated that he “wants to meet” with Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. He made this remark during an interview published on Wednesday (3/6/2026).

“I want to meet him, and we might meet someday, depending on how everything progresses,” Trump told “Pod Force One” of the New York Post, as reported by AFP.

The same information was also published by the Turkish outlet Anadolu, referencing the same source. Trump stated that he wants Mojtaba Khamenei to be involved in negotiations for a deal to end the war, asserting that the two parties “seem capable of getting along.”

He reiterated that Iran has essentially agreed not to possess nuclear weapons, describing this as “a big thing.”

“We cannot allow them to have nuclear weapons… they have agreed that they will not have nuclear weapons, and they could change their minds, but that is one of the things they must agree to, and it is a big thing,” he said.

Previously, the US and Israel stated that Iran’s nuclear programme and the “Iranian regime” were the primary reasons for launching the war on 28 February. The conflict is currently paused due to a ceasefire, although a permanent peace has yet to be established.

Trump noted that talks with Iran are “progressing rapidly, and the progress is good.” He added that “this will be very good,” further stating that “many good things will happen.”
