New type of goat created
KUALA LUMPUR (DPA): A group from the University Malaya (UM) and German scientists have made a breakthrough in breeding a goat which can produce more meat and milk, UM vice chancellor Abdullah Sanusi said yesterday.
The result of their 15-year collaboration in research is a crossbreed between Malaysian and German stock named Germanasia, he told reporters.
He said it was time for commercial farming of the new species to be carried out and UM was looking for suitable locations.
The Germanasia breeds more, grows faster, weighs four times more than local breeds, is about half the size of a cow, and produces more meat and milk.
