New toll roads ease traffic jams

JAKARTA: Toll road operator PT Jasa Marga claimed on Monday that there was no traffic congestion during peak hours on Jl. Veteran, South Jakarta, as three new toll roads had commenced operations.

The three toll roads are part of the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) high-budget project. They are: Pondok Pinang-Veteran toll road, Pondok Aren-Ulujami toll road and Bintaro-Ulujami toll road.

PT Jasa Marga president Syarifuddin Alambai admitted a mishap had caused heavy traffic congestion on the first day of operations, "but further coordination with the traffic police had resolved the matter".

Construction work on Veteran-Ulujami junction toll road is still underway. The toll road will connect Jakarta-Serpong toll road and JORR.

The new toll roads also connect with Pondok Pinang Kampung Rambutan, Jagorawi toll road and Jakarta-Cikampek toll road, the Jakarta-Tangerang/Merak toll road and the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. -- Antara
