New team in Kobatama 2003 season

JAKARTA: The national premier basketball competition, or Kobatama, will begin the 2003 season early next month with eight new teams, after an exodus of old teams to the newly established Indonesian Basketball League (IBL).

The eight new teams are Satria Padjadjaran Bogor, Bogor Raya, Buls Jakarta, Halim Kediri, Mahameru Surabaya, Pacific Caesar Surabaya, Sahabat Surabaya and Utama Yogyakarta.

The season will take place over four series, which will be held in four separate cities. Surabaya in East Java will host the opening series between May 1 and May 4, followed by Bogor, West Java (May 21 to May 24), Yogyakarta (June 9 to June 12) and Jakarta (July 13 to July 16).

The top four teams will advance to the finals on Aug. 2 and Aug. 3, which will take place at the venue of the competition's overall leader.--JP
