New 'Surabaya Pos' appears on newsstands
SURABAYA: Tatang Istiawan, a former journalist of the now
defunct Surabaya Post, has launched a morning daily, Harian
Surabaya Pos, whose first issue appeared on Aug. 17, 2002, in
Surabaya, the capital of East Java.
The daily's first issue ran an official speech by President
Megawati Soekarnoputri as its lead story to mark Indonesia's
Independence Day.
The daily's format and design are very similar to those of the
old Surabaya Post, which was an evening paper.
The new paper has a 20,000 copy print run, and is being sold
at Rp 1,500 per copy.
Tatang, the new daily's chief editor, said the daily was using
a similar name to the Surabaya Post after the Surabaya Post's
owners purchased all their assets.
He declined to name the investors financing the new
publication.
The Surabaya Post went into liquidation following internal
friction among its shareholders several months ago. --Antara
