New status for Yogyakarta police

YOGYAKARTA: The Yogyakarta police force was administratively
upgraded over the weekend from a regional sector force under the
command of the Central Java police to a new independent command.

During a ceremony attended by National Police Chief Lt. Gen.
Dibyo Widodo, police Col. Mulyono Sulaiman was inducted as the
new Yogyakarta police chief replacing Col. Darsono who headed the
old police command.

Darsono said he leaves three unfinished investigations for his
successor to complete: the Langensastran murder case, the murder
of a dentist in Pakuningratan, and the murder of journalist Fuad
Muhammad Syafrudin.

"Let's be patient. Hopefully the cases can be solved soon,"
new Police Chief Mulyono said when asked about finishing the
investigations. (30)
