New schools to be built

SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: Five junior high schools will be built in five regencies with Rp 8.15 billion (US$3.5 million) which the province received from the 1996/1997 budget, Antara reported yesterday.

Head of local public works Syafrudin Haris said that some of the funds would also be used to build new classrooms at some junior high schools.

"The schools' construction project has been tendered," Haris said. "Let's hope the schools can be opened by the end of this year." (swe)
