New River Embankment Collapses, Printing Business in East Jakarta's Batu Ampar Collapses
JAKARTA - A printing business premises in Batu Ampar, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, collapsed after the Kali Baru river embankment experienced a landslide on Sunday afternoon (22/3/2026). The incident occurred because the soil structure along the riverbank could not withstand the load due to erosion from the water flow, triggered by heavy rainfall. The Head of the Neighbourhood Consultation Agency (LMK) for RW 02 Batu Ampar, Siti Zuhriyah, explained that the landslide on the building at the edge of the Kali Baru occurred because the foundation and embankment were eroded by the river’s water volume. This condition made the building’s supporting structure unstable, leading to its collapse. “The landslide was due to the heavy rain yesterday, which caused the soil here to slide. After that, I coordinated with all relevant parties,” said Siti when met on Monday (23/3/2026). She added that the affected Kali Baru embankment in RT 03/RW 02, Batu Ampar Subdistrict, spans about 10 metres in length and 2 metres in height. The area is one of the vulnerable points because it is on the edge of the river flow and has been under prolonged water pressure. “There were no casualties because the building was already fragile and had been anticipated beforehand. All equipment had also been moved,” Siti revealed. Personnel from PPSU, the Water Resources Sub-Department, the Civil Works and Spatial Planning Sub-Department, the Parks and City Forest Sub-Department, the Water Body Unit of the Environmental Agency, and the BPBD were involved. The joint team carried out initial handling and ensured there was no potential for follow-up landslides. “The impact is that residents cannot pass through this road, especially four-wheeled vehicles. We have coordinated with the community to temporarily avoid that route,” Siti explained.
