New Rhythm in Jakarta's Waste Management...

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The rhythm of waste management in Jakarta has now changed after being stalled by accumulation following Eid al-Fitr 2026.

Collection, which was previously disrupted, has now been reorganised to allow waste flow to move more regularly.

The Jakarta Environment Agency (DLH DKI) has restructured the waste collection pattern by dividing it into three shifts each day.

Head of DLH DKI Jakarta, Asep Kuswanto, said this step was taken to streamline the delivery flow while reducing vehicle queues heading to TPST Bantargebang.

He emphasised that there is no restriction on waste delivery quotas.

DLH is only regulating the fleet’s work rhythm so that the flow of trucks is more even throughout the day.

With this scheme, truck waiting times are targeted to be no more than three hours.

“We want to ensure that drivers work in safe and orderly conditions, while maintaining the smooth operation of waste transportation,” he added.

Asep acknowledged that waste accumulation at several points occurred due to a surge in volume after Eid and operational disruptions at Bantargebang due to a landslide.

“After Eid and the landslide incident at TPST Bantargebang some time ago, waste buildup occurred at several points in the city. We do not hide this situation and apologise to the public for the inconvenience caused,” he said.

TPS Kali Anyar has been emptied, while TPS Rawadas, which had become a site for illegal dumping, has been permanently closed.

Cleanup at TPS Kencana is still ongoing.

On Tuesday (31/3/2026), recovery is underway, though not yet fully complete.
