New rehabilitation complex to be built
JAKARTA (JP): PT Catur Swasakti Utama (CSU), a subsidiary of Bakrie Group, has started work on a rehabilitation housing complex in Cipayung, East Jakarta, which it agreed to construct in exchange for the plot of land where the luxurious Taman Rasuna Apartments are now sited in Kuningan, South Jakarta.
A ceremony to mark the beginning of the project, which is expected to be completed in July next year, was presided over by Deputy Governor for Welfare Affairs Djailani at the construction site on Wednesday.
When finished, the complex will be used to accommodate beggars, sidewalk vendors and street children, including those who help motorists circumvent the city center three-in-one traffic regulations.
Eddy Widodo, who heads the Ministry of Social Services' city office, said the project would compensate for the city-owned rehabilitation complex which was demolished to make way for the apartment complex.
"Under Gubernatorial Decree No. 1291/1996, PT CSU was obliged to reimburse the city with 10,000 square meters of land and build the rehabilitation complex in Cipayung in exchange for a permit to build the apartments," Eddy said.
The rehabilitation complex will be constructed over a 2,500 square-meter site and will cost about Rp 5 billion (US$625), Eko Budi P., PT CSU's development manager, said.
The complex will be equipped with seven office buildings, a workshop, official's houses, kitchens, boarding houses and security posts. (ivy)
