New Record: 129,105 Foreign Tourists Ride Long-Distance Trains, Here Are Their Favourite Stations

The number of foreign tourists using long-distance train services reached 129,105 passengers in the first quarter of 2026. During the first three months of 2026, foreign tourists flocked to long-distance train services from Gambir Station, Yogyakarta, to Bandung. “This figure is the highest in the last five years,” said KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba in an official statement on Saturday (18/4/2026). Anne explained that the growth in the number of foreign tourists using long-distance train services has increased gradually from year to year. “Train travel is increasingly included in their tourism plans,” said Anne. Over the past five years, there have been changes in many aspects of long-distance trains, from more comfortable trains, increasingly practical ticket purchasing processes, to more predictable travel times. Looking at the departure points, the movement of foreign tourists is concentrated in several major stations. Anne added that train travel provides space for tourists to enjoy Indonesia in a closer way. “During the journey, tourists can directly see changes in the landscape from one city to another. That’s what makes the journey feel more memorable,” explained Anne. From Gambir Station, journeys can head to many cities at once. Yogyakarta remains a favourite with its strong cultural atmosphere.
