New rebels plan killings in RP
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (DPA): Disgruntled rebels plan to launch attacks in southern Philippine coastal communities before the end of the year to test new recruits, the military said yesterday.
The latest recruits to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) have been undergoing training inside rebel camps in Tungawan town and are to be sent on test missions involving the killings of police and military personnel in Zamboanga del Sur province, according to the Army's 1st Infantry Division.
Some 300 guerrillas with the MILF, the largest separatist group, and the Abu Sayyaf, the most violent, "would simultaneously launch attacks in the coastal towns of Ipil and Kabasalan", said the intelligence report.
The report identified Ustadz Gumama Campo, an intelligence officer with the MILF, as the alleged leader of the recruits.
