New Progress of 15.54 Percent, Construction of 104 People's Schools Accelerated
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) continues to accelerate the construction of Phase II People’s Schools being carried out at 104 locations across Indonesia. This programme is part of the government’s efforts to support equitable access to education and improve the quality of human resources. As of 22 March 2026, national construction progress has reached 15.54 percent. This achievement is driven by the acceleration of on-site construction work, completion of land preparation, and strengthened coordination between the central and local governments. Minister of PU Dody Hanggodo emphasised that the construction of People’s Schools is part of the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality education. “The construction of these People’s Schools is a tangible form of the government’s commitment to building superior human resources. The Ministry of PU wants to ensure that these educational facilities are built quickly and with quality,” said Dody, quoted from an official statement on Monday (23/03/2026). Phase II People’s Schools are built permanently on land measuring 5-10 hectares prepared by local governments. In addition, supporting facilities are available, such as healthy canteens, clinics, sports fields, extracurricular rooms, and green open spaces. The Ministry of PU is also continuously pushing for the resolution of various technical challenges in the field, from construction access, material mobilisation, to readiness of supporting infrastructure, so that the project runs according to target. For example, the construction of Phase II People’s Schools in Central Java Province, spread across 11 locations, shows progress in implementation along with the acceleration of construction work. Based on the latest progress, construction in Central Java shows varied development, with some locations exceeding the national average, such as in Sragen Regency which has reached 30.9 percent. The Ministry of PU together with local governments will continue to strengthen synergy to ensure that the construction of Phase II People’s Schools can be completed on time and immediately utilised to support equitable access to education in Indonesia.
