New program format for DW's Indonesian service

New program format for DW's Indonesian service

Deutsche Welle is Germany's international broadcast service
with DW-TV, DW-RADIO and DW-WORLD.DE.

Deutsche Welle offers news and cultural highlights from all
over the world from a European and German perspective. Indonesian
is one of thirty languages and the Indonesian department goes on
air twice a day for 100 minutes.

The digital revolution is part of modern life and most media
in this world, including Deutsche Welle, have applied to this
technology.

Modern technology affords modern journalism, i.e. the editors
of Deutsche Welle - from all language departments - have to deal
with it. Time and speed is the order of the day.

Events make it necessary to speed up the process of putting
news on the air as soon as possible and the new technology
enables journalists from anywhere in the world to send
information and programs in top audio quality to any part of the
world.

The Indonesian journalists at DW make use of this in
accelerating dialog programs covering the intercultural dialog as
well as North-South issues. The recent developments in Indonesia,
especially the freedom of the press, are a challenge for DW
journalists to properly cover important events and developments
in the target area.

For some six years now, Deutsche Welle's Indonesian service
has been adjusting its radio programs to the needs and
expectations of its listeners.

A lot of changes have taken place in Indonesia and Deutsche
Welle will apply a new format in November 2005. A 30 minute
current affairs program covering Indonesian, German, European and
world news is followed by political background and analysis.

Last but not least, DW will focus on cultural and social
events that are of relevance to Indonesia and Germany. The dialog
between different cultures as well as the latest trends in the
development of civil society will feature prominently in this new
program.

Deutsche Welle's Indonesian service with its new audio design
reaches out for the generation of modern Indonesia with applied
education, lifestyle and music programs from the heart of Europe.

Deutsche Welle cooperates with 141 partner stations in
Indonesia and those who'd like to access their information on the
Internet can find it on the Indonesian homepage at: www.dw-
world.de.
