New postal tariffs set
JAKARTA (JP): The state-owned postal company PT Pos Indonesia introduced new tariffs for several services yesterday to become more competitive with banks and courier services in transferring money and delivering packages, an executive said.
The company's president, Cahyana Achadjayadi, said before a meeting at the Ministry of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications that the previous tariffs were set in 1993.
Cahyana said that based on the company's new tariff structure, effective since Sept. 1, the mailing cost for leaflets, brochures and other printed matter is now Rp 300 (12 U.S. cents) per 50 grams, compared with Rp 100 per 20 grams.
He said that the cost of mailing printed matter weighing up to 500 grams from Jakarta to Irian Jaya, for instance, has been reduced from Rp 3,500 to Rp 1,200.
Transferring money will now cost 50 percent less, while the amount transferable has been raised from Rp 2.5 million to Rp 5 million.
The cost of delivering a two-kilogram package within the same city has been lowered 36 percent to Rp 1,200 from Rp 1,900. (icn)
