New plots for tidal wave victims
PALU, Central Sulawesi: Hundreds of families whose home in the
Tonggolobibi village were destroyed by tidal waves this month
will be resettled in a safer area further inland, Antara
reported.
Sites for the affected villagers have already been designated
by the government and they would be parceled out to each family,
Abdullah Baksh, the chief of the Social Services Office was
quoted by the news agency as saying.
Abdullah said the proposal had already been approved by
Minister of Social Services Inten Soeweno in Jakarta.
Eight people were killed in the tidal waves that struck the
coastal village following an earthquake measuring 7 on the
Richter scale in the Makassar Straits. (emb)
